Understanding the cause of knee symptoms and the available treatment options is the starting point. A specialist assessment can help determine whether a joint-preserving approach is relevant to an individual patient.
In July 2025, Zhujiang Hospital reported its team's use of AI-assisted planning and a patient-specific 3D-printed guide for high tibial osteotomy, a joint-preserving knee procedure. Professor Lijun Lin organised the departmental discussion and treatment planning; Lin Zhaowei and the departmental team also participated.
The guide supports the planned bone cut during surgery. This report illustrates a team approach to individualised planning; it does not mean that the same procedure is suitable for every patient or that knee replacement can always be avoided.
